Homemade Pet Food
Have you ever checked the list of ingredients on your pets' food and wondered what you were feeding them?  Perhaps your pet has a special diet recommended by the veterinarian.  The best way to ensure that your pet is getting quality pet food is to make it yourself.  Most of us who have pets love and care about them and want to be sure that they are getting what they need in their diet.
The key to homemade pet food is finding the right recipes to meet your needs, and most of all that will  meet your pet's needs.  If for instance your dog has dry skin or some other condition, your vet might recommend a particular brand of dog food.  When you go to the store or check your vet's office, you see that the price is rather high.  You could look into getting the proper ingredients and a recipe, and make the food yourself at probably a fraction of the cost.
If you are worried that your pet's food is full of preservatives or non-essential ingredients, then the solution would be to make the food yourself.  Depending on the recipe that you find, it might be as simple as mixing ingredients together or might involve some cooking.    Making homemade pet food might not be as easy as going to the store and buying a can or bag, but it will let your cat or dog know that you love them.
Homemade dog treats are as simple as baking cookies.  Using some ingredients that you might already have around the house, you could make treats that are as good, if not better than those found at the store.  A simple recipe using whole wheat flour, corn meal, mint, and parsley, makes for a breath freshening biscuit.  If you are a gardener, you could put a little mint or parsley in your garden and know that these are fresh ingredients.  Other ingredients that might be used are peanut butter, cheese, prepared baby food, or a meat broth.  Not only do you control the ingredients, but also the portions.  With these treats, you can use simple cookie cutters or specialty cutters for the size that is best for you.
Homemade pet food can save you money.  But more importantly, homemade pet food shows your pet that your concern for them and how much you care about their health.
